VERRUCAE

What are verrucae?

Verrucae are plantar warts that commonly occur on the soles of the feet or around the toe area. They are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which is contagious through direct person-to-person contact.

What are the symptoms of verrucae?

Verrucae are small, rough, often round, lumps on the skin. Sometimes you will only see one or two verrucas on one or both feet, though they can cover larger areas of skin. Occasionally, they can be painful.

WHAT TREATMENT OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?

There are a number of treatment options available for verrucae but there is no single treatment option that is 100% guaranteed to clear it. Some treatments will work for some, but might not for others. The overlying hard skin that may develop over the verruca can be removed by a podiatrist to relieve discomfort but this will not ‘remove’ the verruca in a single treatment. Verruca’s cannot simply be ‘cut out’ and do not have a root. Our podiatrists are experts in verrucae and can advise on the appropriate management plan for your verruca at your initial assessment. At J&L Health we offer a wide range of treatments including:

  • Debridement

  • Cryotherapy

  • Acid therapy

  • Electrosurgery

  • Falknors Needling
